Vital Vaccines this Winter. Staying Protected

As winter sets in, Ambition24hours Locum and Allied are committed to helping healthcare professionals stay safe. This season, we’re focusing on flu protection, urging you to prioritise your health and the health of those you care for. With the continued risk of viral infections, getting vaccinated and following proper health protocols is essential.

Vaccination remains your best defence against serious illness this winter. Flu is particularly dangerous in healthcare environments, where infections can spread quickly. By getting vaccinated, you help prevent the spread of these viruses, protecting not only yourself but also your colleagues and patients.

Already Vaccinated?

If you've received your seasonal vaccinations, please update us via the Staffshift chat or WhatsApp

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

If you're eligible for the NHS flu vaccines, it's vital to get vaccinated as soon as possible. You are eligible if you:

  • Are aged 65 or over (or turning 65 before 31 March 2025)

  • Have specific underlying health conditions

  • Are pregnant

  • Work in frontline healthcare

  • Live in a care home for older adults

Simple Steps to Book Your Vaccination

  1. Book online via the NHS app or a participating pharmacy.

  2. Find a local pharmacy offering NHS flu vaccinations.

  3. Contact your GP to schedule an appointment

Understanding Risk Factors

Certain healthcare workers and patients are more vulnerable to severe flu complications. If you fall into any of these categories, please inform Ambition24hours Locum and Allied to help us take the necessary precautions:

  • Age: over 60s are more vulnerable.

  • Underlying Health Conditions: conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or weakened immune systems increase risk.

  • Pregnancy: pregnant women face higher risks.

  • Obesity: a BMI over 30 can lead to more severe complications.

Infection Control in Healthcare Settings

Maintaining a safe work environment during flu season is a shared responsibility. Follow these critical infection control practices:

  • Always wear the appropriate PPE for your role and setting. Proper use of PPE is essential to minimising the risk of viral spread.

  • Regularly wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser, especially after patient contact.

  • Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing and dispose of tissues properly to reduce the spread of germs.

Reporting Health Changes

If you experience any changes in your health, it's essential to report them right away. This includes:

  • Respiratory symptoms such as cough, fever, or shortness of breath.

  • Loss of taste or smell, which can be a sign of Covid-19.

  • Any recent exposure to someone with Covid-19 or another infectious disease.

  • Any personal health changes that may affect your ability to provide care.

Reporting your health status promptly allows us to implement preventive measures and keep our workplaces safe.

To update your health status and upload your immunisation records through our secure portal or app, please make sure to complete your health questionnaire
